Stomp and shake cheer was brought to our school 4 years ago in 2020 by 3 enthusiastic and driven students. Their goal was to make a club that anyone and everyone could join, and now many stomps later our schools Stomp and shake club is thriving. In the early 1940s stomp and shake was first created in Virginia and Carolina in historically black Colleges and universities who were influenced by D9 fraternities and sororities. The black culture around stomp and shake is very important to the sport. As the sport is a powerful way to show self-expression in ways like creativity, rhythm, and unity between one and another. Many people in the club describe each other as a sister hood.
In our school’s stomp and shake club many members agree that it is a fun and kind club. And management has been found saying things like, “My favorite thing about SSC is showing school spirit and supporting our fellow sports teams.” Nadia Breckenridge, 2025 (Captain). But through struggles with admin, our stomp and shake club stayed together as a sisterhood.
