Looking to make some money this summer? Want to spice up your college application? Now is the time to apply for a summer job! It is ideal to begin applying for jobs (if you plan to work over the summer) a few months before school ends and summer begins so that you can secure your position and not worry about job-hunting over summer break which is more difficult. Here are ways in which you can either find a summer job or specific job opportunities fit for teenagers for this summer.
PWCS Employment and Summer Job Fair
PWCS’ very own job fair is a great opportunity to learn about the many job opportunities the county is providing for this summer, it is also easier this way! Instead of scavenging online for job positions, this fair will give you a direct opportunity to find a job. The fair will be held on Monday, April 8th, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Colgan High School. This fair is also helpful for seniors who are planning to enter the workforce, military, or post-secondary training programs after graduation. Visit the website to learn more!
Lifeguard Positions in Woodbridge and Manassas
There are MANY lifeguarding positions in both Woodbridge and Manassas at waterparks, public pools, fitness centers, etc. It is important to keep in mind that you are not limited to only lifeguarding positions at these types of locations. You can be at the register, a swim lesson instructor (17+ years of age), a swim lesson aid (14+ years of age), and many more. For example, the City of Manassas Park Aquatics Division provides all of the positions listed at the Manassas Park Community Center and Signal Bay Water Park.
Others
Other summer job opportunities may include the common retail position. Giant, Target, Wegmans, and many stores at malls have “Hiring Now” signs on their doors! Getting a retail position as a teenager is a great way to begin your journey in the real world and to build your job experience history of your resume so that you may apply to higher-paying jobs in the future! Small shops such as Boba places, small restaurants (most likely ethnic restaurants), bakeries, ice cream places, Sweetfrog also all accept teenagers to either work as a cashier or prepare the food which is not an extremely difficult task.
Teenagers have jobs for various reasons: saving up for college, wanting money to buy things, or wanting to show colleges your work ethics, there are many benefits to having a job as a teenager. If you want to have a productive summer, a summer job is the perfect opportunity to have a routine over summer break and earn some money along the way!
