With the new quarter started and classes getting harder to keep up with, Thanksgiving break is wonderful time to destress and spend time with your family and friends. Although it may be a short break, there are still so many things to do over the 5-day weekend. So, if you’re not traveling and need ideas for fun activities to do, here’s a short list.
- Friendsgiving
The main activity that you can specifically do with friends around the time of Thanksgiving is the idea of Friendsgiving. Either one person or multiple can host a Friendsgiving where you essentially do the same things that you would do at a normal Thanksgiving gathering, except with all of your friends! Everyone can plan to bring a dish and eat a big feast and play games after. A Friendsgiving can take place at someone’s house or you all can have a picnic at a park.
- Apple picking
It’s apple picking season! Although the majority of apple orchards are harvested in September and October, some orchards continue harvest until November. Some research as to where the best spots for apple picking is recommended whether you’re located in Manassas or Woodbridge, but it should not take much effort since there are so many farms available for picking in Virginia.
- Hiking
It’s November, which means the weather is chilly and the leaves are orange, the best combination for a hiking trip! The good thing about this activity is how you can get a good workout in while also enjoying yourself with the beautiful scenery around you. A common spot for hiking in Virginia is Shenandoah National Park where there are multiple trails to choose from based on your preferences such as Old Rag Mountain Loop, Hawksbill Loop Trail, Rose River Trail, etc.
Bike ride with scenery
Simple yet fun, a bike ride with friends or family at a park or a forest during November feels amazing. You get to see the orange trees, workout, and hangout!
