Last week, officers from both Baking Club and Women in STEAM came together to help bake cookies for Battle for Blue.
Battle for Blue was an event planned by Mr. Watters’ leadership class to help raise money for the Ashley Blue Scholarship and SUDEP Awareness. This event was in memory of Ashley Blue who unfortunately passed away due to epilepsy.
Ashley’s impact at the event was undeniable. Organizers worked hard to make sure she was recognized by incorporating some of her interests. Primarily, the theme of the event features superheroes, which she loved, specifically Superman vs Batman.
The event was on Thursday, October 12th during the volleyball game against Patriot and money was raised through selling baked goods and generous donations.
On Wednesday afternoon, the officers got together to bake cookies for the event with approximately 130 cookies being baked, 115 of which were sold. Officers from both Baking Club and Women in STEAM were present as well as members of the leadership class. Volunteers spent 2 hours in the kitchen, preparing baking and cleaning.
It is wonderful to see unity and collaboration between clubs in OP especially for a good cause. The leadership class would like to thank the FACS department for the use of their kitchens, Madame Pressotto for her time and supervision, and the following volunteers for coming to help: Jackelin Barrera, Sadiyah Mohammed, Emely Vanegas, Jeannine Martinez, Emily Dubon, Kinaz Abdulsalam, Genessis Berrios, Lilly Bennett, Addis Ngo, Conner Cantwell, Nadia Breckenridge, and Delasy Obeng.
